About Melbo Life Science
Thirty years of seed, built into one company
Melbo Life Science Pvt. Ltd. develops, produces and markets hybrid and improved seed for Indian farmers. The company began commercial operations from Bengaluru in 2021 — but the breeding experience and grower relationships behind it go back three decades.
Our story
Melbo Life Science was originally established as part of the MLS Group. It is an Indian agribusiness supplying agricultural and hybrid seed, with breeding and production programmes across field crops — cotton, maize, rice, sorghum, pearl millet (bajra), wheat, castor, sunflower and mustard — alongside a deep vegetable portfolio.
The company is based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, with research operations in Hyderabad, Telangana. Seed is marketed across India and meets the standards of the Indian Seeds Act, 1966. Behind that sits in-house research and development recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India from 2001 onwards.
What has not changed in thirty years is how a variety earns its place. Candidate lines are grown out across agro-climatic zones, scored in the field, and only named once they have done it more than once. We work with experienced Indian seed growers to multiply what survives that process — and the figures we publish for duration, fruit weight and pack size are the ones we measured.
Today Melbo is among the faster-growing Indian seed companies, with 80 varieties across 24 crops and a crop-protection business — Melbo Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. — in development.

Farmer first
Every variety is judged by one measure — what it returns to the farmer who plants it. Duration, pack size and field behaviour are published plainly so a grower can choose with open eyes.
Proof before promise
Varieties move from breeding plot to catalogue only after multi-location trials. Our field books, not our brochures, decide what gets a name.
Genetic depth
Breeding programmes run across paddy, maize, wheat, oilseeds, pulses and nineteen vegetable crops, so a season's risk is never carried by a single line.
Seed you can trust
Production with selected growers, controlled processing and testing against the standards of the Seeds Act, 1966 — germination and purity are not negotiable.
